Today at Helping Hands I met up with a volunteer to take down the Christmas tree. I know…it was time.
He was really excited because he’d gotten some cool treats on sale and was looking forward to seeing if our guests tomorrow would like them. I already know they will.
It occurred to me, watching him check out these goodies, how blessed and lucky this man is. He finds so much joy in giving.
The prayer of St. Francis came to my mind. In these troubled times, may we all seek to console, understand, love, give, and pardon.
“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”
Help us always to sow love in downtown Great Falls. Thank you.
